- Book club app: the book you're reading now, the next meeting, each member's progress and the reading list. An AI Putty example you can copy and change.
Book club app: reading list, progress and meetings
A book club app for a small group that wants one page with what it's reading, who's keeping up, and when it meets next. It's a live example built with AI Putty from one sentence: "A book club, built live: what we're reading, what's next, how far everyone has got, and when and where we meet." You can import it into your own project and change it by talking to your AI.
Reading now and next meeting
Two cards at the top:
- Reading now: the book the club is on, its author and pages, and who chose it.
- Next meeting: the soonest meeting still to come: the date, the place, and the book it's about.
How far everyone has got
One row per member on the current book, furthest first, with a bar, the percent and the pages read. finished means 100%.
Log your progress (members): pick the Member and the Book, give your Progress % (0 to 100), then Save. Logging again on the same book updates your row instead of adding a second one.
Reading list and adding a book
- Reading list: the books lined up next, oldest suggestion first, with the author, pages and who chose each. The top one is up next.
- Add a book (members): Title, Author, Pages and Chosen by, then Add. It joins the reading list.
Past meetings and books read
- Past meetings: newest first, with the date, the place, the book and the notes.
- Read: the books the club has finished, with the club's rating out of 5.
Examples
"Who's behind on this month's book?" Look at How far everyone has got; the bottom row is furthest behind. In the sample club, everyone is on Piranesi: Chloe has finished, Ana is at 80% and Ben at 35%.
"When and where do we meet next?" Read the Next meeting card. In the samples it's November 13, 2026, at The Corner Café, on Piranesi.
"What do we read after this?" Look at the top of the Reading list. In the samples, The Remains of the Day, chosen by Ben, is up next, then Dune.
Make it yours
Ask your AI to import it (see BookClub): "import the book club app from examples". Your project gets the model, the app, this help and the sample club, and from then on it's yours to change. Then, say:
- "Add our members"
- "Remind everyone the day before a meeting"
- "When a meeting passes, mark its book read and start the next one"
- "Let members rate a book after we finish it"
How it's built
Four classes: a member, a book (title, author, pages, who chose it, its status reading, next or read, and a rating once read), a meeting (date, place, book, notes) and a read (how far one member has got with one book). Pages read is computed in the model from the percent and the book's length. One book is reading at a time; moving it to read is done by hand for now, and is a rule you can add. See BookClubDesign for the layout and BookClub for all the parts.
